On view through October 30

Gabba Gallery invites you to three outstanding new solo shows by three Los Angeles-based artists: Jack Winthrop, Christina Ramos, and Judy Ostro. Curated by Jason Ostro and Elena Jacobson, all three shows open October 9.

Jack Winthrop explodes onto the art scene with his first ever solo exhibition, The Wounded Healer, a powerful collection of large-scale paintings on canvas. Abstracted human forms, flowers, symbols, and text dance amidst kinetic webs of bold, graffiti-like lines. Inspired by his personal journey through addiction and recovery, Winthrop’s paintings capture the chaos of suffering as well as the hopeful struggle of healing. Don’t miss this stunning and evocative debut.

Christina Ramos returns to Gabba with Child’s Play, a whimsical collection of recent work. Ramos captures the spirit of youth in her paintings of kids and kids-at-heart. A little girl and a gorilla play together with a barrel of monkeys. A young woman with pink balloons tied to her hair hosts a tea party. A tattooed hipster lounges on Twister mat. As always, Ramos wows viewers with her masterful use of acrylics, leaving many shocked that the perfectly blended paints are not in fact oil.

After decades making art in Detroit, Judy Ostro celebrates her recent move to Los Angeles with a cheerful solo exhibition, Never Too Late. Candy colors and geometric patterns take center stage in this lively collection of abstract paintings. Ostro’s psychedelic canvases and skate decks seem to buzz with positive energy. In several works, she takes this sense of movement to the next level by weaving strips of two paintings together into one. In these trying times, Ostro’s sunshine vibes provide the perfect pick-me-up.

The opening night reception for all three shows takes place Saturday, October 9, 7-11pm.  The event is free and open to the public; no RSVP necessary.  Masks required. DJ Jonathan Williams spinning. Limited free parking behind 3125 Beverly Blvd (enter off Dillon), street parking, ride share encouraged.

Gabba Gallery is located at 3126 Beverly Blvd, Los Angeles 90057.  All three shows will be on view through October 30. After opening night, gallery hours are Thursday through Saturday, noon to 3pm or by appointment.
